MadLaser BETA available

Dear mappers!

We're really excited because we're back with the first extension for MadMapper: MadLaser, allowing to control beams of light using cutting-edge tools!

It's available now for Beta testing so we look forward to your feedback

Here's the main MadLaser highlights :

Easy of use, as usual
Native Apple M1 build
Unlimited lasers (till your computer melts)
Multi protocol: Ilda through EtherDream or Helios USB, Shownet, FB4 through Pangolin Beyond
Realtime vectorization of video or material content
Laser lines just like regular lines you’re used to
Realtime programmable laser shaders
Mesh warping of laser content
Multi laser content dispatch
Laser projector masks
Ilda file import/export
Laser text with included OneLineFonts
SVG file import to render precise vector graphics
Full options: angle optimization, blanking, draw order, maximize FPS, time offsetting signals, etc
(And much more!)

Below, three features we'd like to introduce to you today

Video Vectorization :
MadLaser integrates your existing content pipeline, allowing to vectorize movies and materials. Do your mapping in AfterEffects just like usual and convert your videos to Laser Vector Lines. Or use your regular and loved materials, in one click. We worked hard on a next-level vectorizer, so it should handle the most precise and demanding projects.

Laser Materials :
Harness the power of code with a new breed of materials: the Laser materials will output true vector graphics, still using GLSL language, all in realtime, live from the code editor. Templates included in the beta, and a few examples are already in the online library.

Laser Dispatch :
A laser can only output a limited number of shapes before flickering or loosing precision. Got a heavy design to display? No problem, MadLaser comes to the rescue, allowing to dispatch complex shapes to multiple lasers! It's easier than ever.

(Video tutorials will be available on Youtube soon!)

Important - Safety Warning :
Lasers are powerful and dangerous, hence they should be handled with care and safety for the audience in mind.
Please comply with your local regulations.
MadMapper / GarageCube / 1024 architecture cannot be hold responsible for misusage of laser equipment.
Don’t shoot rays towards your audience, always use a safety switch on your hardware and specify a safety area.
Avoid burning your laser hardware by limiting the laser scan rate.

How To Download Mad Laser BETA ?

The extension will be released along a new website for MadMapper 5 and a new user-centric licensing system replacing the Yourspace account page.
To use the Beta version and try MadLaser you will need to create an account and generate a serial number with the procedure described below:

- You need to have a valid MadMapper license, any version
- Go to https://beta.madmapper.com
- Create an account (e-mail verification will be required)
- Go to your user account/licenses
- Import your current MadMapper serial number
- If valid, a temporary MadMapper 5 + MadLaser beta license will be generated and linked to your account
- Go to your user-account/download
- Download MadMapper 5 Beta + MadLaser
- Install MadMapper and login using your newly created user-account
- Have fun!

NOTE:
All the information you enter in https://beta.madmapper.com, including your user account, will be wiped on Tuesday, November 23rd, prior to the official launch of MadMapper 5 and MadLaser.
(No worries we won’t wipe your original MadMapper license…)

Feel free to report bugs and share feedback by using the dedicated Beta Feedback button at the top right of the previews!

We hope you will love this new version & extension!

Enjoy!

The MAD Team.

Amazing! Anyone got a quick suggestion for a simple laser setup for testing this stuff?

Ether Dream or Helios?

Laser recommendation?

Thanks.

Helios is cheaper + no psu needed as it is USB powered ...
However, Helios is 12bit precision vs 16bit Etherdream.

I'd still go for Helios tho'

Anyone think this will work? https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/ ... 1498MS72dx

It's for pangolin systems?

Thanks! (Exciting News all around!)

Great news!
But: Does it work with FB4 alone, or with Pangolin Quickshow or does I really need Beyond? - which means 750 Euro for the entry version or 2500 Euro for Ultimate and works only on a Windows PC....?

Hi,

MadMapper supports multiple DACs. It supports FX4 through Pangolin Beyond, so you need to be on Windows and have the licence, that's not the option we promote, but since many people in the business have lasers with only FB4 DAC intergrated (and no ILDA input) we decided to handle it.
We prefer working with Etherdream (ethernet - 16 bits XY) or Helios (USB - 12 bits XY).
We also support ShowNET protocol - DAC, so any LaserWorld projector with ShowNET (Tarm are good machines) will work directly with just a network cable (Auto IP works fine)

> Anyone got a quick suggestion for a simple laser setup for testing this stuff?

It depends on your budget and possible projects. If you want to do graphics (needs accurate scanning, precise and small beam => low divergence, good diodes alignment) or atmospheric.
I'm not comfortable to promote hardware. I first bought a small very cheap LaserWorld DS1000 to understand what laser projection is about, and while I wouldn't use it in an install (the white is blue, to get a clean white I have to reduce lower red and green by 50%, so I'm about 0.5W), scan is not bad at all and the beam is very straight (of course it's easier to have a straight 1W beam than a 5W)
If you want to do video projection + laser on top, you might like to have a small beam - low divergence.
If you're doing architectural mapping, atmospheric, clubbing or festival, you might prefer power over sharpness. But for a museum piece you 'll choose a low power / sharp beam one.

Hallo,
I use Pangolin FB4 Beyond with a Microsoft Surface and a MacBookPro with MadMapper (in Future MadLaser). Everything is connected to a Ubiquiti UniFi Switch and on the Same Network.

My Questions:
1. Can I now Control my LaserProjector with MadLaser(Running on MacBookPro) over FB4?
2. Is it possible to Control the LaserProjector with Beyond (Running on my Surface) too? Or at the same Time..Lasermapping from MadLaser and Colour FX from Beyond….

Thank You.

Can it also control FB3 via Beyond?
Is there a reason why it can’t?
I have Beyond Ultimate and a lot of FB3, or does it make use of FB4 specific functionality like distributed scanning?
Are there plans to support Wicked Laser LaserDock/LaserCube?

Yesterday I was able to download the Mac and PC betas. I had to update my osx since I was still in high sierra, now from Big Sur I can't get past the login, I'm sure to write my username and pass correctly, but it indicates an error all the time. In the link to forgotten password open https://beta.madmapper.com/ and from there it does not happen ... I'm in a loop!
is there a problem with the page?

This is great!! Thanks for adding this option.

I have a Cameo 1000RGB laser ILDA. For now I'm using Pangolin Quickshow with FB4 box.
What's the easiest way to use my laser with Madmapper?

If I understand correctly I should try to use an Ether Dream 3 Laser DAC box to have it work with Madmapper?

Thanks again

MadMapper 5.0 beta supports DACs: Etherdream, Helios, ShowNET (LaserWorld dac protocol) & Pangolin Beyond.
