Kasumi vs Grandmaster Flash
One night only: Saturday, February 11, 2006, 8pm – 1 am. Museum of Fine Arts Houston Recently returned from a VJ tour of Europe, I will perform withGrandmaster Flash on February 11, 2006 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in conjunction with the exhibition “Basquiat”, on view through February 12.
The legendary Grandmaster Flash is not only responsible for inventing the musical genre called Hip Hop but his pioneering use of the turntables made him the first DJ to play the turntables as a musical instrument, helping to elevate thestatus of the DJ to a masterful, artistic position.
I use a distinctive style of video art that involves montages and composites of handpainted film, repeated personal, social and political symbols taken from found footage and found sound sampleswoven into a rhythmic, contrapuntal harmony.
Kasumi vs Grandmaster Flash is part of the Starbucks Music Series at MFAH,“The Music that Changed the Man who Changed Art: The Beats of Basquiat”.
