    Bezier curves on masks

    by tangent » Mon Jul 28, 2014 4:57 pm

    Is this a thing yet?
I realised its happening on the warp function but i really need it on the masking as well.
Mapio does this really well would love it if MM could as well

Indeed Please include this function! I just bought Madmapper and need to switch back to using MapIO pro 2 for this function... Not pleasant :( What would also be great is the possibility to create circle masks, and /or to convert normal layers to masks. Is this something that's going to be included in a future release? Thanks!

bezier masks are on our todo list - but we didn't start working on them yet -

    Hello,

Is adding bezier curves to surfaces and/or masks finally added in version 2.0? It was said in a post in this forum that it was going to be added in 2.0:

    viewtopic.php?f=21&t=9270

Also, it would be really nice if instead of importing svg’s to create lines, importing svg’s would create surfaces with that shape. I am still using MapIO pro 2 because of these features missing in Madmapper. Can it please be implemented and if it’s already on the schedule, how long until it is released?

    Thanks!

We didn't add bezier in 2.0 because we plan to add full SVG support at some point, for lines and polygons, as you suggested.
However, we haven't started yet to work on this feature.

Hey MM this is August 2016 and still waiting!!! :( :( I think this is the most important missing function in MM, and we have been waiting for it years, is very sad that this is not included in the 2.5, at least is not in the 2.5 beta4. This must be accompanied by the option (in the Export Input/Output DB) of exporting the mask to svg. This is one of the top five reasons why users complain about MM.

I agree It is kind of an important features and I was also hoping to see it implemented soon. But good to hear about full svg support too.

Hi mapping friends, l have to say l'm here because l'm looking for a way to use curved masks, or surfaces with bezier, but respecting the ratio and media's origin grid, without warp. So in fact, after almost 10 years of using MM - super cool soft - my wish is this option could finally run because it would be really great gain of time on the projects, and especially could be really really more clean ! more professional ! More more ! 8)

    Please do it.

We desparately need masks with bezier curves. And the mask should affect only the one layer, not everything underneath it.
It should start with a primitive, either square, circle, or triangle. Then apply mask to that primative.
The warp tool bends the video image and distorts too much when creating a curved shape.
Need to preserve the video image in a rounded mask.
Also need a way to import a vector mask from .ai file.
    Thanks!!

Is there any progress on this? Been missing for years and pretty important.

Fully agree we need bezier curves on masks!

Perhaps an alternative is to have the ability to add points to the present linear softedge function and have these additional points with option to be linear or smooth (bezier). This way, without the softedge, it effectively becomes a mask with the ability to add bezier curve points; with the soft-edge, it also has the ability to add bezier points. Good for awkward softedges and masks as not all projections and mapping are linear.

    +1 !

Totally agree, even if there is something oddly satisfying in spending hours masking curved objects ;-)
