    Media Server

    by Radiance » Tue May 21, 2024 4:06 am

    Hi,

Im working on creating an immersive experience that uses 16 projectors in the display.
They need to show synchronised content, running up to 4k resolution on each projector.
Total run time for the loop of the show will be about 30 minutes.

Id like to use Mad Mapper as the main software for this installation.

Is there a media server you'd recommend for this?

    Many thanks in advance!

It seems like using MiniMad's might be the way to go.
Has anyone linked up 16 in an installation and is it stable?

In theory, you could use any media server hardware out there (Disguise, Green Hippo, Datatron) or even build your own custom machine on windows or linux with multiple GPUs, and still drive the content with MadMapper on the local machine, or over a network. (Spout, NDI).

Unfortunately, driving 16x projectors at 4K resolutions (or 12G SDI) is not a simple task.

1920x1200 or 1920x1080 is more easily accomplished with a single graphics card outputting to multiple video wall controllers such as the Datapath FX4. https://www.datapathltd.com/datapath-pr ... apath-fx4/

If you go the DIY route and need multiple GPUs, then you get into issues with the Quatro cards running Mosaic: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/design-vis ... echnology/

Or with RTX gaming cards running into sync issues and introducing tearing. But if you go the DIY route, you should be able to drive the display from MadMapper with a powerful machine. It's playing back content at that resolution that opens up a who other level of complications.
