    sound input

    Hi

Great program by the way. Really enjoy using it. Reminds me of Ableton Live in interface and general ease of use.

Anyhow - I just wanted to make a suggestion for future Modul8's. Would it be possible to have a sound sensitivity option whereby you could tune the sound input senser to pick up beats more. By this I mean it hones in on the kick drum more so stuff happens to the beat - a bit like a midi tempo matcher does. The sensitivity of Modul8 means that it reacts to all the sound and sometimes you simply want it to react to the strongest beat so things happen more in time. So - say a house track is playing and you have the movement linked to sound it will only react to the storngest beat i.e the kick drum and nothing else.

    Just a suggestion anyhow.

    Cheers :D

Thank for the suggestion. A frequencies analyser is on our to-do list and we'll be integrated in an upcoming version of Modul8.

    Thanks. That would be great.

As an aside, I did my first VJ set in a club last night with Modul8 and it worked like a dream and went down really well. The more the night went on the more I found it could do.

    Well worth the money. :-)

    duck... hi,
what i do to get a similar effect is run the audio input through a very cheap $30 radio shack 7 band equalizer and narrow the sound down to the bass. i've found this to be very effective.

or if your computer has a free input and output jack unused, open a channel in ableton live to process the signal, use Apple's AU Hipass to completely remove anything above 500hz, and then send that 1 channel to its own output, then input it back into your computer for modul8 to pick up on the audio input.

the ableton method can add some latency so beware, but its much cheaper :)

Thanks AJ - may give that a try.

The place where I mostly do this set uses an Allen & Heath Xone02 mixer with a sub output on the back for lighting rigs to activate sound to light. I think I may be able to connect the output of this into my Edirol Audio interface to the Powerbook which might do the trick.

I've used the sub output on a Pulsar masterpiece lighting unit before so hoping it will work the same.

Thanks for the advice anyhow - I have Ableton Live but don't want to use anymore processing power than necessary due to using Firewire input video cameras. :D

you would be amazed how very little CPU the AULowpass takes.
    maybe 2-3% cpu tops.

give it a try at least, it may suit your needs, it may not.
