    MIDI recording?

    by humdrum » Thu Apr 28, 2005 6:23 am

i'm new to this software and i really haven't checked it out. i did notice however that v2 has a record option; what i need to know is, can i edit this recording afterwards? is there a MIDI event editor built in? or better still, will it work with a pro MIDI sequencing app? will the rewire protocol be supported to allow for this (like in arkaos)? or has anyone had any success with the IAC driver built into OSX?

    thanks for any info...

MIDI sequencing is possible, but to an extent. As far as I know (my use of modul8 with a powerful computer is very limited), modul8 needs some time to load clips some times so very fast switching between LOADS of clips is not going to work well. However if you are not going to switch 100 clips like a manic bastard, sequencing works great. You can even sequence CCs and modul8 will recognize them all. I set up CC envelope MIDI clips on Ableton Live 4 and send them to modul8 no problems. I also sequence video clips from within Live or my Electribe EA-1. Works a treat.

You don't need version 2 for this though, I have been doing it since version 1 without problems.

Rewire is a processor hog that I would not like to have in one machine. The CPU cost of having a ReWire master and modul8 hooked to it as a ReWire slave is too much for my liking. Sequence from other ocmputer or hardware.
