analog to dv converters that m8 2.6 will recognise for mbp?

    by R-e-R » Tue Dec 01, 2009 10:55 pm

whats the best way to convert an s-video/composite signal to dv that modul8_2.6 can recognise? wanting to bring my v4/vixid mixes into m8 for further live processing. ive had no probs with my dv cam as an input source but it cancels the s-video signal input from the video mixers if i plug in the firewire cable from my mbp.
...any converters that can be recommended would be appreciated.
    regards, R-e-R.

thanks. anyone have any luck with other models? like the 300. is it likely since they use the same codec that m8 should recognize other models?
will i only be able to utilize 2 input layers on the mbp( the built in i-sight and 1 dv source)...since i only have one dv(firewire) port?
and is it even worth trying to get more than one dv input layer source going cause the processing becomes to much.
im assuming that you need a mac pro decked out to really be able to use all 4 inputs in 2.6.
thanks for the advice in advance, im starting with the basics of familiarizing myself with all the different i/o configs and possibilities with my gear.
when i get the basics down...im working towards connecting the dots with a more complicated setup which will include controlling every piece of hardware/software in the chain with ableton(midi). so i have an apc40/ableton setup with an evo5 audio/midi interface out to vixid/v4/m8...etc hopefully eventually dmx for the light and laser control as well. any help or suggestions on things to consider would be greatly appreciated.
    cheers, R-e-R

This one is working pretty well :

One very interesting thing : It's not DV but native firewire, Modul8 support is working only with one firewire at the same time, you can overpass that with this device.

Just one more thing : you have to buy the driver for mac osx separately (the company which produces this device is a bit annoying)

Any DV Bridge or camera will work, it appears a standard image capture device for quicktime - due to the lack of info on this I started a thread to help. http://www.garagecube.com/forum/viewtop ... highlight=
Keep in mind any DV bridge will give you latency of a couple of seconds, but there are other solutions which that thread covers.

Did you mean frames not seconds latency. With my Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge I get just few frames. I added this Bridge to the list as well. It has been working almost 10 years with various apps.
TheImagingSource FW box can capture uncompresses video and thus is highly recommended. The driver for mac is about another 50 bucks. And their shipping costs are as you would expect from corporate enterprise - outrageous!

Just a thought, have you had a mess with your camera settings?

There may be a menu setting like AV IN - DV Out enable on/off, some of the Sony DV cameras have this feature.

thanks for the tip...i thought that i had done this b4 in the past with my sony dv cam, but forgot that it was my older one and yes it does work as a converter.
ive had mixed results with the input layer bogging things down in m8, but then made adjustments to the audio analysis(chose less scale/damp and less input freqs) and things seemed alot smoother.
im just preparing my first m8 set for a real live test with all my gear.
i have most of the midi issues/mappings sorted now.
