I'm trying to figure this out... your help please

    Hi,

Just a bunch of questions, since I'm starting to graduate from a casual user to a moderately informed user. :)

1- During my performances, I've always wanted to be able to :
    a) at the end of a song, turn off ALL layers and go to black. Currently, I have to go
and manually turn of my layers after each song is done.
    b) in the middle of a song, do a quick "fade to black" and then resume play.

If someone could tell me how to achieve these, I would be very grateful.

2- What are the advantages/disadvantages of using memory loading vs. streaming from disk? I'm currently using a Firewire 800 drive to load in my media. Is it better to have all the media play from disk? Would that help the overall performance?

Thank you in advance for all your expert knowledge.

    take care;
    John

    All layers to black
are you using a MIDI controller?
I have layer on/off switches mapped to the keyboard and can get them all turned off very quickly
You could also write a module that creates a master fader

    Streaming from disc
best performance is having media in memory.

Yeah, I'm using a microKontrol. Excuse the stupid question, but which one is the "layer on/off switch"?

Thanks for the clarification on the streaming/memory option.

Surely you could just map a MIDI slider to the Master Alpha channel to sort out your fade to black needs.

As for RAM vs. streaming, that's up to you. Try both and go with what's best for your particular situation.

Bottom line RAM v. Hard Drive-if you've got the RAM use it, it's always going to be faster than HD no mater what interconnect you're using.
