Sending midi through ethernet-port to modul8

    by Scandaniel » Tue Jan 31, 2012 2:27 pm

I will be doing a show on Friday as a light designer. I would like to trigger modul8 through the lightdesk (GrandMA light).

Is it possible to send midi through ethernet-port to modul8?
What should the string look like? (Channel)-(Midi Number)-(Midi-on-off) or does it need to be in a different format?

I think it will be easier to use DMX directly if you have an enttec dmx usb pro. You can create fixtures right in Modul8 and use your grandMa as usual.

I don't know how grandMa manages the midi, I didn't know it was even possible. most of the Modul8 controls can be controlled using "control_change" midi signal.

You might have misunderstood that one, I see that. I'm not operating the lights through Modul8, just my videofiles. As the show will be dead-tight I will try to add my videofiles in a cuestack, meaning I ONLY have to press GO on my lightdesk to change light and videosetting and not fiddle with an extra fader controller to change videosetting.

I said you can control modul8 with your grandMa, not the inverse.

Now, I don't think it's an easy task with the built in fixture module.
I uploaded a module (s6) dmx2media in the online library that should help you.

You can address dmx channel to medias in the library. It doesn't care about the value, only the channel. You set your start channel and the number of channels you are going to use (hit enter to validate). Under the text fields you see what's available with which channel.

I hope you can work with that.

Otherwise there is the Midi solution otherwise I don't know how to help you with grandMa/midi
