trying to understand midi betweeen M8 and other apps

    by bal » Tue Aug 11, 2009 9:59 am

hi i am trying to get serious about midi and i have been making experiments between diferent software and hardware , and now i have couple of doubts about m8 and midi

first of all is modul8 capable of sending midi data i mean in ableton yo configure the inputs and the outputs of the midi data sent and recived by that program can you configure a midi output to the driver IAC for example?

second is related to the first one is there any way to configure certain input to modul8? or it alwais recive all the midi going through your equipment?

and finally i have a midi controller UC-33 and i have ableton live running and i have midipipe running and i have the driver IAC open and enabled and the midi out in ableton live set to the driver and a pipe in the midipie that has a controller slider seted up to chan1 CC1 and midiout to midipipe Port 1.
M8 running with the modul that prints the midi messsages to the console.
    so starting from this point
i turn on the midi clock in ableton and enablethe external clock in m8 and it starts going
and the console starts printing midi clock data

i start the midi mapping in m8 select any control and move the slider in the uc33 that has the Chan1 CC1 and gets mapped, then I go to Ableton turn the midi mapping on select any control move the same slider in the uc 33 and it gets mapped.
then turning the midi mapping in both programs and move the slider in the Uc33 and voila it moves the 2 controls. then move the control in Ableton and it will move in M8,this is what i was talking about in question 2 when i move the control in modul8 it doesnt moves the one mapped in ableton.
And if then i delete the midi map from m8 then activate the midi mapping select a control then go to ableton live and move the control it wont get mapped in m8 eventhough the midi message gets displayed in the console, the same happens when i move the controller slider in midipipe with the midi mappin gactivated in m8, it does not get mapped, when i try moving the same slider in midipipe with the midi mapping activated in Ableton live it does get mapped.

after the whole explanation i think that the last question is that if you can m8 midi mapped with out having midi hardware? i mean just through software or maybe scripting somewhere or with a module?

thaks anyone for reading this post and alot of more thank if someone bothers in answering it

    Modul8 doesn't send MIDI.
Modul8 is indiscriminate with the MIDI it receives.

Not true. Or, well the standard interface does not output any MIDI but you can write your own modules that does.
