Update: I used my iPhone as a controller for Modul8 at a gig last friday night and it was AWESOME!!! I could actually get an idea of how the visuals looked from different angles in the club.. It even had the added benefit of letting me dance a bit, and go get drinks without having to set up any automation!! The only problem I ad was that my UC33e controller stopped working for some of the time. I'm not sure if it's a conflict with OSCulator or maybe something else.. If anybody has any ideas please let me know. I'm going to troubleshoot a bit this weekend when I have time.

    Cheers!!!

I had a buddy pooring beer in my UC33 and that was bad. I unplugged it and turned it up side down on a t-shirt to dry and the next day it was fine.

    Thanks!!

There is a software called AppInstaller that will let you install programs without jailbreaking the iPhone. To be honest, I don't really know the difference of jailbreaking the iPhone and using the AppInstaller. Use it with caution! I installed it one late night and after getting "too experimental" I managed to do something wrong and I had to restore the OS. I lost all photos but calendar, call logs, addresses, settings and notes were all there. I needed to download the apps again but did not have to pay for them.

    iPhone with modul8

    by s=i=n=j=u=n » Wed Mar 10, 2010 12:46 pm

hi, i have a few questions about using the iphone to control modul8...
the set up i use is a coda nova VMX into a MBP running modul8, the thing that i like the least about this set up is having to select a layer to effect with the mouse before i can begin working with it on the coda nova.
i am soon to be the owner of a iphone and was wondering about its use in bridging this gap and taking the track selection off the MBP and onto the touch screen device.
would this be possible with the iphone? if not, is there any other pieces of kit worthy of this task?
is the selection of different tracks even mapable to a midi decide anyways? it doesnt flash green in the midi mapping

    cheers

What do you mean by "Track selection"? Do you mean that you would like to control the which layer is selected by using the iPhone. This is possible, but you should be able to do this with the Codanova VMX as well.

In Midi-mapping mode there are three buttons that you probably missed. They are up on the top and are called "Focus", "Position" and "Layerset + Position". The two last ones give you the option of midi mapping each of the 10 layers.

I don't know if there is a module for it (there should be) for selecting layers with only two buttons (up and down). In that way you wouldn't have to waste 10 buttons on the Codanova.

If you want do do this on your iPhone you should be able to do this with a MIDI app. I tried the iTM apps earlier and they worked fine. However if you use the OSC app Mrmr, you could design your own interface which is very nice. But then you have to learn how to switch layers through OSC in Modul8.

    Hi,

    Alot has happened since 2008!

Anyone wanting to control anything midi related via there iphone/ipod touch, and very shortly the ipad can do so using OSCtouch by Hexlar and a niffty little program called Osculator by the lovely Camille!

    touch OSC available here http://hexler.net/software/touchosc
    Osculator available here http://www.osculator.net/

I am now free from the shackels of the BOOTH and can dance with my friends all night long (what friends? Shhh!)

OSCtouch also provides an interface builder so you can change the layouts as you wish much easier than mrmr.

    Have Fun!
