    Hulk CityMidi/ Audio /

by hulk city » Sun Jan 30, 2011 11:27 pm

Having seen several posts on the topic audio midi , here is a basic run down of the set up we are using.. with no problems.

    Hulk City , Alternative Rock.
    Bass & vocals
    Guitar
    Drums

Projection is cyclorama style behind the band.

Modul8 is running on a normal macbook.
An Edirol 10 input audio interface with midi.( usb)
A Roland SPDs sample pad as midi controller for the drummer.
3 on stage fixed mini cameras ( drum set / bass player microphone stand / on the guitar)
1 x Sony HD camera moveable.
    4ch video input (usb)

We can route the 10 audio inputs from the drum kit microphones , the bass drum and snare trigger alternate banks of images.
The bass guitar inputs, vocals and general mix are also assigned to parameters.

Using the SPDs pads to control the cross fader and start and stop audio samples ( played directly from the pad)
Another pad changes the song banks and the media banks.

The results so far are a very impressive , we have yet to have to use the mapping as mostly we have large screens to work on , but a chance to put the visuals over a building would be cool.

Soon as we have latest results we will post a vimeo ..

    recording -

That's our only problem , when we engage the render to disk.. we don't get the audio on the recordings. without actually connecting an external recorder i ain't worked that out yet ...
    Help please.
The live audio that is .. if we run the visuals to a "blind" clip with a sound track then we get both sound and picture.
Our next step is to make a film using the Sony HD of the show.. with live band.
Have found the visuals to be a bit out of place with out the band.. all works fine as projections over the band..
we can map shapes on to the front of the drum kit - bass drum, onto the speaker cabinets and so on. My next step is to make our own urban clips to use.
