    Control Surface For Modul8

    by B1scu1t » Thu Jan 03, 2008 7:04 pm

Im looking for a control panel to use with modul8 on my macbook pro. I currently have a BCD2000 but i cant get it to work properly, i lose the midi signal all the time and it doesn't register values properly etc.

Im pretty new to it all and im planning to do some live shows.

    Maximum budget is £200

the main ones that i have been looking at are Novation Remote Zero SL, Evolution UC33e or x-session, m-audio trigger finger and the Behringer BCF/BCR 2000.

Im really leaning towards the Novation, iv read some real good things but it pricey and i could do with some words of wisdom

I have an evolution uc 33e. It is the first and current controller that i am using. I found it very easy to use and it has loads of knobs and sliders. I would strongly recommend it and it lights up in the dark.

I was looking at the UC-33 but changed my mind in the store, most because it seemed like it did not have endless encoder. Is this the case? It seems like that would limit it's flexibility. I got the BCR-2000 because it had the most knobs for the money. The only issue I have with it is the knobs are tricky to quickly move from end to end like a fader can do. Other then that it has been awesome. The Novation is a really cool device with a smaller footprint, but price kept me away. With recent price reductions the BCR-2000 is less then 1/2 of the Remote Zero.

If you forget he price for a second would you pick the novation over the BCR?

I would like to point out that the device needs to be able to take a bit of a beating as i tend to travel around a lot and i carry stuff rather than going by car (student life :/)

the main problem i have had is the BCD has such a disappointment and a pain it kinda suggests you get what you pay for when you buy from Behringer. The BCR doesnt have any faders at all and at least one would be nice.. hence why i am looking at the X-session aswell

    Man im confused :x

Forgetting price I would get a Lemur or have something custom built. Other then that the Novation would be my product of choice. Especially if you can edit the display. One of the biggest issues I have with any controller is forgetting what the control is especially when you get a couple presets deep. Personally I think the main issue with the BCD-2000 is that some of the functions are audio only for DJ's.

    Good luck in your search!

I've looked at many controllers, played with several, owned a few, and I'm a fan of the BCR. Personally, I was hesitant at first because I owned several very poorly constructed Behringer DJ mixers, but I've had the BCR for a couple of years now and I can't say anything but good thing about it's flexibility and its build quality. As far as I am concerned, the combination push button/knobs are awesome and I love the LED rings. As has been mentioned, the price is certainly right. In fact, I recently snapped off one of the BCR's knobs, glued it back on with super glue, and it continues to work flawlessly. The only real criticism that I can offer is that it's really more knobs than I need. But, then again, you can never have too many knobs!
