A very general question: What VJ styles are there o categories of vjing are there.

Like in electronic music, I am sure most vjs fall under certain styles or categories by using certain aesthetic elements in their visual compositions.Ive seen lots of styles that range in my own words to describe them like minimal, video dubbing, psychodelic, industrial, etc.

Can someone provide insight on this...

I think one of the coolest things about VJing in my limited experience is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of categorizing going on. This will sound wishy washy but I really think it's freeing creatively to look at this awesome medium without a lot of hangups about "style" attached to it. You can really do whatever you want without having to worry about what people will compare it to. It I think there are defintely good uses for some general defined genres but it seems like a lot of people take it so far with music that they lose sight of what's really important about music...Do they like it or not?

Anyway sorry about the soapbox. I know there are definitely good reasons to define some genres. I don't mean to sound snotty. I definitely notice a bigger set of folks doing real video mixing in cool stylistic ways. I saw the Faint play recently and they were using a prerecorded set but it was just about the coolest video mix ever, conceptually and stylistically. I also see more than a couple people doing abstract audio reactive geometry deformation things....Almost like party flyers in motion, which is pretty sweet. Have you seen this guy?? (http://www.flight404.com/blog/) He's pretty much a master at that stuff as far as I've seen.
I am really into spending a lot of time beforehand making really "finished" looking stuff (really nice 3d scenes with nice lighting and animation and so on) and then the performance is mostly just about the mix, not really effects-y.
