Mixing a live stream with prerecorded video

Hello everyone.

I'm half of an artist duo ADEPT with my colleague Shanaz Gulzar. We're creating an installation in which we want to mix 50:50 a live video feed from a network camera (or conceivably a high specified webcam) with a looping, pre-recorded video. Ideally, we want this to start up with as little fuss as possible, so that it can be switched on and off by competent but not techie gallery staff.

Is Modul8 the right application to achieve this? What forms of live feed (if any) will Modul8 stream? And, frankly, would we be buying a gold-plated solution with Modul8 where something simpler would do the job just fine?

Sorry to bombard you with questions in my first post.

Modul8 will do this but you're probably better off with camera+dvd player +video mixer

Try Quartz composer.
I can't completely understand your set up, but with Quartz composer you can show live feeds, mixed with pre recorded video. And to get it started, just open the quartz composer file (or let it automatically startup when the computer is booted up)
