    Osc access to modules

    by renaud » Wed Apr 08, 2009 6:24 pm

My question for the new possibilities in M8 2.6 is the following :

Do you have implement an access to modules via OSC?
I've work with midi mapping a few times ago and it's not realistic to send a lot of midi informations at the same time .. There is something wrong with MIDI clock / rate.

There is currently an OSC module. You can find it in the GarageCUBE online module library with the modul8 application.

    Ilan,

I've seen the OSC modul and I use it to control all the parameters of the layers. It's very good. But what I need is a similar access to the modul.
Is there a chance that it will be on the M8 roadmap?

I am afraid I don't understand what you mean by 'access to the module.' Are you wanting to customize the current OSC module? Or do mean that mapping functions from an OSC device (the only one I know of is the Lemur) would be as easy the way MIDI mapping is within modul8?

I use the lemur to control M8 and I use pd or MaxMsp to create ramp and presets. All with OSC.
So to control the alpha of the layer 1, I use [/md8key/ctrl_layer_alpha/1 $1]
My problem is to control modules. I can't found in documentation any information to control modules without midi. When we create modules, we create keywords. What I need i to associate an OSC adress for all the keywords we create when creating a module.

    I hope it's clear,

Thank you for clarifying this. This is indeed a problem at the moment with OSC and modul8 as the OSC implementation is through a module and modules cannot talk to each other with the exception of the BPM modules that are special 'garagecube' coded modules. At the moment the best solution would be to integrate the functionality of a module you want to use into the OSC module.

In the future this will be addressed.

Great, but it will be in 2.6 or later?

Another question, is there something about preset for the next release?

Unfortunately it will probably be a later release.

What do you mean by 'preset'?

Ok.. I will be there for discussing or beta-testing some OSC stuffs...
    For preset I mean :
    • to change all values of 10 layers in a few milliseconds
    • to be able to say to layer 1 for exemple Go to position X in X milliseconds ...
I use Modul8 for writing scénari and scénography and it's very difficult to think without that ...

What I do for the moment is a patch in max-msp which has memory of all I do in Modul8. So with that I can say :
    • Give me the actuel value for all the 10 layers and make a preset with it

    <I hope I'm clear ..
