Flash Twitter tool, for use in Modul8

I'm currently developing and testing a Live Twitter tool for modul8, which will display twitter messages in your VJ set.

It works by importing a SWF file into Modul8, and then opening another SWF outside of Modul8. This second SWF shows the search interface for twitter, and sends twitter results to the SWF that you have inside Modul8.

It's still a beta test, some people have problems getting the security settings right, but it does actually work and I have used it in live VJ sets already.

For Traktor users it could be fun to combine the twitter module with Richie Hawtin's twitter plug-in for Traktor.

I forsee a lot of Traktor-Modul8 MIDI & Twitter madness...

@Fry_up Thanks for that link. I'm a Traktor user and I wasn't aware of that.

Also, wouldn't it be possible to do roughly the same thing using a QuartzComposer module which grabs an RSS feed?

I don't think so, unfortunately. I just tried two diffrent ways of pulling in Twitter in to Quartz (one of them with RSS) and none of them worked in Modul8. I don't think the Quartz files are allowed to read any external data when used in Modul8(?). Or there might be some QC security settings...

I wondered about that...

Use BlackMagicCard, DVI to HDMI - Feed in your Twitter

Yes, it sucks that Modul8 has not added a way to have "Live Social Media" linked into their software. It is the future.

One approach is to treat a laptop and it's desktop as a video feed for Modul8.

I am using a laptop, DVI to HDMI into the Black Magic Card then selecting the BMI card as a video source for a Modul8 Layer. Thus, you could use the Quartz or Flash/ActionScript to visualize Twitter data, then ingest and remix in Modul8.

Try it using Ableton Live on the laptop. You can jam with Ableton this way right in Modul8 and freak out your friends.

PS - I would love to collaborate to get more real-time social media / web date into live visual remixing to create more crowd/fan interactions models..

I've managed to do Twitter trough RSS in Modul8 via Syphon. I thought that since I installed QC Rehab the RSS patch might work directly in M8, but that didn't happen. You could also do something like CamTwist and bring the Quartz output into Modul8 as a camera but I think there will be more quality loss than Syphon.
