Codec Choice for Rendering Logical Record

Is "Apple Animation" the default codec for rendering Logical Record because it is the best quality for rendering compositions out of Modul8, or just because it's the first in the list?

The Apple Animation codec creates enormous files. Has anyone had good experience with other codecs? Does it depend on what sort of elements you're using in the compositions, or is there a standard 'best' choice?

Thanks in advance for any insight/experience.

It is first on the list as it is through OS X.
Use PhotoJPG if you will be reusing it for mixes. Otherwise Apple Intermediate or H264. BUT experiment before you do long recording session, so you are sure it works. You may be better if you choose your desired codec and quality later through QT export. AI is probably the best unless you have space for large file.

The key here is what you'll be using the render for. Animation is a lossless codec and therefor what you should be using if you plan to use your render in further production. H264 is good for web delivery, photo jpg if you plan to use the render back in md8 etc...
