    Wireless Video Feed using WIFI

    by bonafide » Thu Jan 07, 2010 10:36 pm

I'm doing wireless Live Feed video transmission for a gig. I've used expensive FM transmitters before, but this time I want to cut costs and hopefully eliminate the interference that I usually encounter in crowded ballrooms.

I've been directed to wifi webcams such as this one: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=510

Are these legit? Anyone had experience? I can't afford any lag and it needs to be running at 30fps. Video quality doesn't need to be tremendous, just good enough to see dancers, etc. Seems to good to be true for the pricetag so what is the consensus on these?

I don't know any wifi cameras, but reading the specs of the one you posted, it seems impossible to get it working into modul8. I'm not even sure if you can get the video stream on a mac as it uses activeX and need internet explorer to see it… I think it would be a big mistake to buy this camera… the resolution is also quite poor at 30fps…

What is the problem with cables? it's the most efficient way ;)

yeah, i wasn't planning on buying it... just wondering if anyone had experience with it.

it's just tough running BNC cables all over a crowded ballroom. it restricts us to being right by the stage, unless we can get away with running cable under the dance floor. i'm surprised WIFI video transmission isn't happening yet.
