MM6 ARTNET UNICAST on MAC M4 M6 ethernet ports

    by littlejohn » Thu Oct 29, 2026 2:48 am

Hey guys, I am hitting my head against a wall with this one, I thought it was just with advatek hardware but I have just encountered this problem with Madrix Nebulas, and I have A LOT out in the wild so would love some feedback here!!
I can broadcast artnet to devices absolutely fine, they work but obviously this isn't ideal for a large network, I never had any issues with the older M1 macs but all of a sudden I cannot send unicast data out!!!
Wireshark on the port shows the artsync and artpoll packets, but no data.
Is it just me or has someone else managed to make unicast work on their M4 and Later Macs with MM6?
I can plug the exact same MM file into a windows laptop running MM6 and everything works wonderfully, I have had mixed results using a USB to ethernet adapter, Currently I can see the advatek pixlites or madrix nebulas when I poll the devices in the preferences but I cannot send data packets to them, if I switch over to broadcast then the devices receive.
This has caused me problems on a few jobs and I have had to create workarounds involving isolated vlans just to segregate the broadcast traffic, Please tell me it isn't just me!

It's not just you - we were basically forced to update a computer we're using in an installation to macos27.2 and it has completely broken unicast at this point. I get some data through on broadcast but it's a 50+ universe installation so that's not acceptable.

Interesting to hear it's working on windows, that might be a possible fallback.

I wanted to follow up on this thread with our findings, as we continued to have problems with unicast, so we decided to isolate our issue.

Our hardware setup is an M1 Mac Mini (8GB). On the artnet device side, we were using an ENTTEC Storm 10 as our endpoint. We set it up on the office network (Ubiquiti Unifi gear, different models but same platform as we use in the installation mentioned in my other comment) and set up WireShark to capture traffic on the en0 interface that connected to the network.

    We tested it running:
    - MacOS version 27.0.1 with MadMapper version 6.1.5 and 5.7.1 - no Unicast traffic transmitted
    - MacOS versions 26.7.2, 15.8.2, and 14.8.9 and MadMapper versions 5.7.1 and 6.1.8 - all combinations worked fine

I did notice in this post (https://forum.garagecube.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=36480) the release notes mention "Fixed possible networking issues on macOS 27 (Golden Gate)". It doesn't seem like it's completely fixed on MacOS 27 - we were running 6.1.8 on macos 27.2 when we found the problem, which Is why I didn't bother with tighter upgrade controls on the 27/6 series test.

I'd advise anyone having problems to downgrade your system to 26.7.2. This requires wiping the device, so back it up first. Then you can get the installer from Apple in terminal:

    Code: Select all

    % softwareupdate --list-full-installers

    Code: Select all

    % softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version <version_number>

    Hi,
Please download and test last version of MadMapper (6.2.0), just released. We solved a network problem due to changes in Apple security / signing things.
Let us know if it solves.
    Thx
