    Reverse engineering DMX channels

    by pattyo34 » Wed Oct 13, 2021 4:52 am

    Hi there,

I have two RGB tube lights from China whose DMX profiles and channels in the manual don't work with any custom light profiles I make for them within MadMapper.

Does anyone have any experience on how to reverse engineer the light's channels using DMX Display software? Or any technique to work out what channels control what?

The previous advice I received was to put them in their RGB profile (which I did), and create a custom RGB profile in MadMapper, but the light isn't displaying the colours as it should, and I am at a loss.

Any help would be truly appreciated, I have spent countless hours trying to work this out and can't find any relevant tutorials or questions in the forum or anywhere online about how to do this.

    Thanks

    easy.
creatr an new fixture definition with custom profile with say, 20 channels,
set each channel to a slider,
then active sliders one by one to see what happens.
Usually there's a dimmer, so I'd start with all channels full on, then shut down channels one by one.
