    Updating masks across multiple scenes

    by felix-headtrip » Thu Mar 12, 2026 7:18 pm

    Hi,

I’m preparing a MadMapper 6.0.9 project with around 40 scenes. Each scene uses the same surfaces but with different visual setups (different layers on/off, materials, etc.). Many of the visuals use lines and geometric shapes with masks applied.

My goal is to prepare the full project beforehand and then, at the venue, adjust the masks and shapes once to match the physical installation. Ideally, those adjustments would then update across all scenes automatically.

However, during testing I noticed that each scene also stores the mask positions and surface geometry. This means that if I adjust a mask after creating the scenes, the changes are not reflected in the other scenes, and I would need to manually update them scene by scene.

Is there a recommended workflow or workaround for this? For example, a way to keep mapping/masks global while scenes only change the content settings?

    Thanks!

why use scenes ? why not use cues and keep masks out of cues ? that way any modification on a mask will spread every where ...
scenes are for quick squetching ideas, but for final projects they are not recommended, as they snapshot every parameter in your app, which, in your case, is not what you want

Update: I may have found a potential solution.

Scenes can be edited using the Record (Edit Scene/Cue) button. In this mode, you can go to the corresponding mask or shape layer category and remove it from the timeline.

After doing this, you can update the base masks/shapes layer, and all subsequent scenes will use the updated masks and shapes instead of their previously recorded versions.

Does this sound like the correct workflow, or is there a better way to handle masks that should stay consistent across many scenes?

    Edit:
Thanks franz, I'm looking into that as well.
