Artnet with two applications

From what seems to be from an oversight on my part in regards to the limitations of art net, I have run into a problem that I didn't expect.
I assumed that I could send artnet on 1 universe or subnet from one application (in my case VDMX) and artnet from madmapper on another. Madmapper states "Artnet not configured" when VDMX has DMX enabled, but works when it's disabled. VDMX at least tells me "Another artnet application is using device 2.9.whatever". This really sucks for me because I want to send event based triggers to the lighting console from VDMX, and colours/fixtures from mad mapper. Is there any work around for this? I can't just create another physical network because the console only has a single ethernet port (windows machine running chamsys with wing etc). Has anyone gotten around this somehow? One thing I considered was to use imagery (black/white small square) from vdmx that MM could turn into dmx events for me but that seems kind of absurd. Any help would be appreciated.

lets have your ip configs then

Ip configs, ok. One machine 2.9.200.1, next machine 2.9.200.2, running through a router. Thing is it works fine with either of the applications, just not both(set to different universes etc etc). What ip configurations could you see causing the problem? Can you confirm it's possible?

first I'm no artnet expert.
but all artnet needs the same subnet mask, you cant change that. 255.0.0.0
so check you arent confusing subnet ( universe) with subnet mask.
also worth a double check all 3 units have different tcp/ip addresses

Thanks deep, but I think I've confused you. Vdmx and madmapper are on one machine, chamsys on the other. Trying to send artnet from two applications (but single ip) to a destination.

So as a result of some testing it seems that duplicating the mad mapper application and running two instances of it outputs artnet from both but it becomes very flakey and unusable, no matter whether they are on different universes etc. What is the story here? I'm thinking that maybe because two servers are providing dmx packetised frames that there needs to be a merge middleware of some sort to get it to the client in any orderly fashion. Would this be correct?

ah ok.
well one node with two universes is probably a no no.
I'd suggest setting the two apps DMX addresses differently instead.
maybe 1 and 256
you might get more info by contacting chamsys direct.

It's not a chamsys limitation I'm reaching, I can't enable the same ethernet adaptor on both mm and vdmx at the same time, before it even leaves the first computer. But thanks anyway mate.

you would need a mac pro with 2 ethernet cards, or one universe by wifi and the other on the ethernet card.

ah - I asked around about this and apparently you can pick up a DMX merge box.
afaik this is for regular DMX not artnet, so you may have to make the jump..
