surface offset when I duplicate a file or group of files

Hello
When I duplicate a surface, the copy shifts away from the surface I'm mapping it to. I have to copy output to the original and paste output to the copy. Is there a way to avoid this, considering I always have about twenty surfaces to realign when I duplicate? Thanks in advance.
