Have madmapper autoload a mapping file at startup ?

Hello,

I am an enthusiastic user of madmapper and would like to use it for a permanent installation. However I need to be able to automate certain basic things for the installation to be autonomous. Since I cannot check those features with the demo version of madmapper, could you please reply to me so that I validate my choice and proceed to purchasing ?

I need the installation to run constantly, turning off during a few hours during the night to save projector lamp time. I want madmapper to automatically run at startup and load my mapping file. Can I do this doing the automator ? If I put mapmapper shortcut in startup it will start madmapper but then how do I load my file ? Would placing the madmapper file in startup allow to start madmapper with the correct file loaded already ? How about activating full screen output on projector ? (projector will be turned on and off using RS232).

Thank you very much in advance for your help as I need to validate my technical choice for this installation.

Best

Hello Alex,

I did a heavy installation for a prestigious exhibition and it worked like a charm. You just need to have your file to open at startup (it works the same as having an application opening at startup).

I used mac minis that I setup to reboot in case of power failure so the guys from the gallery just had to turn of the 10 projectors manually and shut the power down to turn the mac minis off. In the morning they just had to turn on the power to have all the macs to start and launch the madmapper compositions. Then they could start all the projectors manually.

If you can start/stop your projector with rs232 it's perfect. As for the mac, if you know that the schedule will never change you can setup a shut down time and a startup time (energy preferences) but in most cases, there are always unschedule things and it would be a shame to have your project turning itself off while 100 people are watching it ;)

As for the fullscreen at startup, is you have a monitor attached to your computer and a projector, it will go fullscreen on the projector by default. if there's only the projector. There's currently an hidden preference that will be in the preferences window in the upcoming update to allow fullscreen on mainscreen at startup.

For those who want this feature already:

Code: Select all

defaults write com.garagecube.madmapper fullscreen_on_mainscreen_at_startup 1

To leave fullscreen in this case, the only way is "cmd - T". I don't want to see support messages asking why the screen turn black when people open madmapper

Hi Sigma,

Thank you so much for this detailed response, that is definitely useful !
I'll experiment with what you say.

For the sake of completeness, I share here a reply I have received :

Hi,
MadMapper can launch at startup using a specific file.
You do not need automator, just put the file in your Login Items
and MadMapper will launch the file at startup.

Fullscreen at startup is also an option we have already developped, but is not available in the current 1.0.2 release.
It will be present in the next 1.1 tho'. Meanwhile it is present in our intermediary builds, and I can confirm it is working,
albeit not public yet.

Hi again,

We are currently trying to setup our installation with madmapper autostarting.
As mentionned in the reply we tried setting the value defaults write com.garagecube.madmapper fullscreen_on_mainscreen_at_startup 1
Unfortunately this is not working. We then tried to do a script that would manually go and click the setting using workflow in the automator.
But because of the pop-up window that warns about fullscreen and instructs to use command + T, it cannot execute well.
So we have no way to auto-launch madmapper in fullscreen, any advice would be very welcome since our project is due in less than a week.
Aren't there any keyboard shortcut to start fullscreen ? Any other hint ?

We are currently using MadMapper demo 1.0.2 (1105)

Thanks a lot and best

Alex

Dear Franz,

I just ordered the full version of madmapper and will try tonight whether I can get the full version to auto start in fullscreen.
I will report on it through support asap.

Thanks for caring
