digital led strips - advice

I have 25 meters of digital led strips with 144px/m to control. Only white/ monochrome color is needed.
In order to save on universes needed to drive the pixels - would it work assigning 1 channel pr. pixel instead of 3 in the fixture editor?
(it would ease the cabling and PixelLite boards as well having strips of 3m each instead of 1m)
