Matrox M9188 GPU, any experiences?

Hello,

there are quite some cheap Matrox M9188 GPUs available (8x miniDP Output).
What can be expected from such a 11 years old GPU?
Could it really be used to feed a 8x 1920x1080 videowall with a modern cpu and ssd?
Would it be able to playback HAP or H264 Codecs and do some simple mapping?

many greetings,
mipmarple

Hi,
Matrox doesn't do OpenGL / Direct3D (except some models that incorporate an AMD chip if I'm not wrong). So it can't be used with MadMapper.
I strongly recommend using a good and affordable nVidia or AMD card with 4 output, if you need more you use a 4k => 4xFullHD splitter like Datapath FX4 (high quality and flexible) or Matrox QuadHead2Go.
Cheers

Hello,
thanks for the answer.

I already received one and also tested it. Was a really heavy, solid product with good miniDP connectors,
but it really is not possible to run any 3d application.
I just seems to be made for static office applications like building a stock dealer's workplace.
VLC video playback however was possible.

many greetings,
