    TRIGGERING VIDEO WITH MIDI MAPPING

by SOLO PAZ » Mon Feb 18, 2008 10:26 am

Hi Guys. I'm trying to set up a show for a music band. We use Digital Performer for sequencing and 2 macbook Pros. One computer is for Audio and the other for Video(Modul8).
1- When I use the midi mapping directly with a keyboard to trigger a layer, it works perfect, but when I record the midi(computer1 with DP5) and send it the computer 2 it activates the layer but it doesnt recognize when the midi note stops and the video keeps going.
2- I tried sending midi with Ableton Live and it solves this problem, maybe its because Live doesnt use sustain data.

Is there any script, function or modul I can use to solve this problem so I can run the show using Digital Performer???

    Kind Regards

    Pura Vida

    MIDI Note Off/Velocity

    by benneill » Tue Apr 01, 2008 5:55 am

I am having the exact same problem described above but WITH Ableton Live. When I play notes on my oxygen keyboard into Modul8 they play fine. But when I play them from Ableton the notes do not turn off. I spoke to Ableton tech support and they told me to fix the release velocities at 0, which I did. Live normally sends velocity 64 when the note is released. But after making the change the notes still stick on. The only way I could figure out how to turn them off in Live was by REPEATING the note with a velocity of 1.

I tried it with Logic and it worked fine. So it's something about Ableton's relationship to Modul8. Any ideas? I am really stumped here!

    download MIDI pipe.
(contact me and I can send you the MIDI PIPE preset)

You may need to create multiple MIDi pipes for each track:

    Each PIPE set the following:

    MIDI IN
    - create a MIDI PIPE IN virtual input (assign midi track out in live to this)

    MESSAGE FILTER
    - check all except:
    poly aftertouch
    ch aftertouch
    program change
    pitch wheel
    control/mode change

you may wish to set a seperate channel?

    VELCOCITY MODIFER
    Scale %100
    Shift 0
    Min 0
    Max 127
    Clip to Range 127

    MIDI OUT

set this as an output that will go to Modul8

One issue that i found which sucks if you sent more than 2 or 3 tracks that have
MIDI on notes starting at the very exact same time.....MODUL8 will lock up.
Easiest way around this is to use the Track Delay in LIVE and shift each of the
tracks - or + from each other.

Don't know why MODUL8 craps out on that.

with which version of Modul8 you have this locking issue ?

When you issue these 2-3 tracks with Midi ON, are you in MIDI mapping mode or the MIDI is already mapped ?

It happens with the message is mapped to specific action (layer trigger, media trigger, ...) or for any action ?

    Regards.
