Spreading workload on miniMAD by separating universes

    by stanbekker » Fri Apr 08, 2022 5:39 pm

I had a question/idea, is it possible to to spread the workload of the artnet by selecting which universes you want to upload on each miniMAD.

We came to this realisation because we have an installation with over 100 universes. I already read that its possible to send out more then 64 but with no guarantee for succes.

It would be perfect for us if we could select the universe numbers for each miniMAD and sync the data over network.

    Would this be possible?

    Thanks :)

You can of course record several sequences each with different universes (by deactivating the fixtures in the list depending on the universes you want to record), and export them separately on several MiniMads.

You can then send the different MiniMads the same OSC commands to make them restart and change sequence at the same time,
but MiniMad Light doesn't have a proper synchronization mechanism yet, and there's no guarantee the playback will remain 100% in sync after some time.

How many universes do you want to play?

Thanks for your reply! Didn't think about that way yet, but then syncing could indeed be an issue depending on the kind of application.

We have 98 universes in total for our installation, should that be possible with 1 MiniMAD at a frame rate of 50fps?

    I think it's worth trying.

You can always send your 98 universes (zipped) sequence to support@garagecube.com and we'll quickly measure the performance.
