is modula8 output via ethernet possible?

    by NIC303 » Sat Feb 27, 2010 8:47 pm

im currently setting up 1 mac running modul8, taking midi sync from ableton on a seperate laptop (XP) via ipmidi (over ethernet/wireless)

main output of modul8 is to projectors, IS THERE ANY WAY TO ALSO SEND MODUL8´S OUTPUT VIA ETHERNET/WIRELESS? this would enable me to record the audio and visuals in sync on a 3rd laptop, thus putting less pressure on the 2 workhorses, and providing a full screen monitor to boot!

any help would be much apreciated, cheers.

I dont think it is possible and it may be more power hungry solution that you imagine. Video streaming over ethernet usually puts the fans into frenzy.
I would use VGA to video scan converter to recorder and audio out to the same recorder. Instead of laptop I would use HDD recorder. The only thing to make sure is to get PRO scanny. eBay has some 20 years old ScanDo Pro's for 50USD and these are good. New ones may cost thousands.

thanks for that. im really looking to do it without any extra hardware.
the main out to projectors goes to a splitter so i may just take 1 of those channels into the 3rd laptop for recording and take audio from a split at the mixer. unfortunatly that means runing cable right across the club which was why i wanted to use he thernet conects we´re already using to bus midi.

Solution with scan converter is the best you can get for now. Why dont you just film it with the camera. If using laptop to record is the quality reason then forget wireless, ethernet. And laptop does not have recording possibilities from other laptop out of the box - only workarounds.
