Minimad boot failure: kernel panic, no working init found

    by shortnotion » Fri Apr 17, 2020 6:25 pm

    See screenshot.
    devtmpfs: error mounting -2
    [...]
Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. [...]

This happened for unknown reasons after running for an extended period of time, I'm assuming something got corrupted after a power failure but if I'd love to hear from anybody who knows more about it.

Also suggestions about about how to avoid this are very welcome. We often have installations running remotely and largely unguided so having instructions as simple as unplugging and restoring the power for turning off and on is very convenient, and this seems to be the normal way of operating the minimad, correct? Unfortunately this is the second time we have a minimad failing for unclear reasons.

We ARE using an official power supply with the minimad.

Please refer to the official miniMAD user-guide to learn how to flash your miniMAD SD-card: https://madmapper.com/wp-content/upload ... RGUIDE.pdf

If the problem persists, it could mean your SD-card got physically damaged and needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the response, but our concern is not how to fix the broken system, but how to AVOID the system breaking down in the first place. It's important for us that remote installations run reliably.

For anyone who's interested; I also posted a question on the raspberrypi forum, which yielded some promising suggestions; https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 8&t=272200.

@Pierre do you know if any of the suggestions from the rpi forum (full filesystem journaling/using overlay filesystem/running OS completely from RAM) are already implemented on the MiniMad?

Thank you for the link and your concern.
We're currently investigating various options in order to improve the miniMAD system's reliability.
