Custom Shapes Using SVG

I'm trying to figure out the new SVG surface in Beta 11. Or really any way to do custom shapes?
I have a grid file PNG that breakouts all of my shapes. I've selected a target region using the SVG surface, but it doesn't appear on the output?
In the output, it shows up as a black rectangle - though the input shapes is more of a trapezoid.
Ideas?
