Feature Request: LaserFX for Lottie and SVG animations too

Hi,
as per subject line: the ability to apply LaserFX on Lottie animations (or SVG image sequences) would be a great additions.

LaserFX are such a useful tool to take animations further, in a way that makes sense specifically for lasers and for live performance! And the possibility to code them oneself allows for a sweet combination of classic timeline animation (via AE) with coded distortion.
In short: really great thing!!

(So far LaserFX are available on Laser Text Surfaces, but not on Laser Text Generator, are available on Images, but not on Image sequences, are even available to the glitchy-by-nature live tracer, but not on laser materials - in short it feels a bit arbitrary. I guess it would be fantastic to always have them at hand.)

Thanks,
Marcel

Maybe it isn't completely clear:
Benefit is an entirely vector based workflow!

You could apply effects (coded, with parameters for live shows) to pre-made media (Lottie animation from e.g. After Effects) - and stay in the world of laser vectors!

It's analogue to a classic vjing/visuals performance approach: use pre-rendered media as basis and apply effects on top. Only in this case without pixels that need a live tracer..
Thus you could work with the strengths and limitations of lasers waaaayyyy more specifically and get more stable results!

Can we please have this?

Can't help it, this forum feels somewhat dead. Rarely any replies, especially not from garageCube's side.

Given it is Black Friday, it makes the question of extending the MadLaser license a pretty difficult one. Is this is a dead software?

Hi,
Sorry for not replying it seems I had an issue not seeing posts in laser section in my notification, just discovering all of those.
We're thinking about an option to get laser line FX on laser content. It's not that easy because laser line FX requires texturing parameters and the source vector content has colors, while the lines in a laser line surface don't have color until textured by the visual.
That should be also supported with other vector visuals than Lottie: laser materials, laser generators, ilda, svg, svg folder, ponk & laser loopback.
We'll keep you posted.

Ok we added a laser generator in MM 6.0 beta 13. This generator lets you choose an input visual for vector content (ie an ilda input, a lottie, a laser material, ponk, laser output loopback, a laser generator etc), a visual for texturing, texturing mode & a laser line fx. Let me know if you have any remark

Hi Matt,
thank you so much for this!
Apparently I'm also not receiving the notifications of this forum.

Yea, i checked the Laser Generator and it works great - in principle. Unfortunately with this approach (going through a laser generator) we loose the playback controls (playbar, tempo, pause/play for lottie). Am i missing something?

I don't understand the part about texturing, is this related to MadMappers inner workings? As far as i'm concerned, colours are defined in the Lottie / SVG file and can be overwritten under appearance. Can additionally be manipulated in the laser fx.
Under texturing i simply picked a solid.

The lottie movie player can still be manipulated live. Or it can be in a timeline montage track and you can use the montage as input for the generator, which can also be in a montage track. It depends if you want live or if you do a conductor

You can use an external visual that will be mapped to the pathes, like in the laser lines surfaces.

Ah, I see. great! i'll need to play with it a bit to get a better idea.
it feels slightly awkward having to change the window (in a manner of speaking) to adust things - jumping between Laser Generator params and the media's playback params. i guess UI-wise it would be better to see both at the same time as it would be the old LaserFX placement on the left.
but using midi to control everything it might not matter in the end.
