hello all
i'm reading and re-reading the documentation but still can't figure out if it's possible to set up the configuration i'm looking for in modul8.
8 faders.
specific media handled by a specific fader out of the 8 ( ie 10 images acted upon by fader one, a group of 10 other images are acted upon by fader 2 etc).
each media clip is triggered by a midi note on a specific midi channel
i can't figure out how to configure the mapping this way. if anyone has info on how banks and layers are organised which might complete the manual, it would really help.
i'm just trying to set up modul8 as a parallel to my ableton live configuration, in which i have 8 tracks with 10 clips in each, whose volumes are assigned to my midi controler faders.
i'm trying to get a similar configuration in m8, with 8 media banks assigned to a specifi layer fader, and each media in the media bank assigned to a specific midi note.
note C1 channel 1 = clip 1 layer 1, fader one
note C1 channel 2 = clip 1 layer 2, fader two
etc
the midi routing is fine, m8 gets the midi notes from ableton and I can map a media to them, but I'm really lost in the mapping configuration ( the three menu, focus, contextual etc). i've been trying many different combinations, and reading the manual over and over but I still don' get it....
some details on the project :
I'm outputing one video on one screen.
but the video is composed of 8 layers ( picture and video clips), opacity of which is controlled by the faders.
It works fine, the only problem i'm having is getting the automation / synching with ableton live.
to try to clear things up :
I use 8 of the 10 available faders in modul8.
Each fader is assigned to a physical fader on the BFC2000.
Each fader is also assigned to 8 track volumes on ableton live.
I display 8 images / video, that are mixed / blended according to the track volume.
This works fine, and i'm really happy with it.
However, this is only the first part, now what I would like to do is to get these 8 images to change every time I change an audio clip in live.
automatically.
which implies linking the audio triggering to the video triggering.
here's what i've tested so far :
I create 8 tracks in ableton live, with 10 audio clips in each track.
next to each audio track, I have one midi track, with 10 midi clips.
Each midi track outputs to 1 channel ( 8 tracks = 8 channels)
Each midi clip has only one note, ie 10 midi clips = 10 notes, chromatically.
audio clip triggering is linked to midi triggering, if I start audio clip 1 it also starts midi clip 1
this works
now, i'm having trouble with modul8's midi mapping, the organisation of it.
it works to a certain extent. I choose the midi map and then play the midi clip in ableton and the video source is linked to the midi note and hence to to the audio. Triggering audio = triggering midi note = triggering visual
but the main problem i'm having with modul8 is understand the midi mapping modes and organisation. i've been reading and reading and trying but still i can't get it to organise like i would like it to which is :
8 banks ( corresponding to the eight audio tracks), each displaying in the layer controlled by one fader. In each bank, 10 clips/ images which correpond to the audio clips, to which they are linked by their own specific midi note and channel, each bank being mapped to notes from one chane only.
this is complicated, and i'm having a hard time understand the logic of modul8's midi mapping.
2nd main problem i'm having is hardware related. the process i'm describing works fine when i'm doing it on one computer only, routing ableton's midi through the IAC2 driver.
howerver, to lighten up the mac's load, i've started using two computers, connected through the BFC2000 interface ( one with ableton live, through USB, and the other through an M-audio midisport midi usb adapter, going into the computer with modul8)
for some reason, whereas modul8 gets the midi signal from the faders, it doesn't not fade, but only reacts in an ON / OFF way ( fader all the way down or up). It works fine when used by itself. I can't understand why...
the BFC2000 is running in Mackie Control modei'm getting better results with an edirol UR 80 controler, but still can't get the mapping right, with the automatic media display in each fader controled layer.
